Palinode – A poem in which the poet retracts a view or sentiment expressed in a former poem. In modern usage – a noun describing a retraction or reversal or a verb meaning to recant.
I’ve had many palinodes in my life. It’s always a good idea to correct yourself if you find that you’ve said something that you know to be false. The past can haunt you if you don’t. A quick example is celebrities saying pretty terrible things in the past and then apologizing for them after they are “exposed”. It would be better for them to create a palinode for those terrible or false statements, before being forced to apologize.
